Ancient Witch Ritual Candles
These are not really background candles. They are the ones you light when you want to make a bit more of an occasion of things.
Each candle is 24cm tall and made with soy wax, fragrance and resin, with enough presence to sit happily on an altar, mantelpiece or centre of a table. There are five designs in the collection, each £16, and each carries its own imagery pressed into the wax.
Ravens' Remedy is for peace and harmony, with lavender and fennel. The raven serves as a guide through uncertainty, which makes this the one we'd reach for when the aim is to clear the air and get things feeling a little lighter.
Locked Desires is for manifestation. The bat in a cage stands for suppressed dreams and unspoken intentions, ready to be released.
Sinful Apple is for love and bold action — the athame and apple evoke the thrill of going after what actually calls to you.
Witches' Queen is made for those seeking inner strength, with a blend of herbs and sacred resins.
Gothic Garden is for cleansing and release. The skull and roses stand for transformation through letting go, and it was made with full moon ceremonies in mind.
They are particularly striking once lit. The tall shape gives you a lovely column of flame, while the resin catches the light as the candle burns. They're the sort of candle that can make an altar feel finished, but you certainly don't need an altar to enjoy one.
They also make a good gift for anyone who enjoys witchcraft, tarot, crystals or simply has a slightly darker taste in homeware. If you're buying for someone and aren't sure which to choose, Ravens' Remedy is probably the easiest place to start.
For the first burn, give the candle around two to three hours so the wax melts across the full surface. Keep the wick trimmed to about 5mm, place it on a heatproof surface and never leave a burning candle unattended.
If you'd prefer something smaller for more regular use, take a look at our magic spell candles, which are £14 and burn for around 50 hours.
