Candles & Holders
This is the place to start if you know you want a candle, but haven't quite decided what sort yet.
There's everything here from £4.95 art tin candles to tall ritual candles, crystal candles, scented soy wax jars and stone candle holders up to £40.60.
If you're buying a candle for a particular reason, it's easier to narrow things down from there.
For rituals and intentions, the Ancient Witch ritual candles are tall, decorative and made to be a focal point. The magic spell candles are smaller and more practical for regular use, with twelve intentions to choose from and around 50 hours of burn time.
If you like the idea of keeping a crystal afterwards, look at the chakra crystal candles, which have gemstones set into the wax. The zodiac crystal candles are an easy birthday present, with a gemstone bracelet to match the star sign.
For everyday fragrance, the Agnes + Cat candles are the place we'd start if you like interesting, natural-feeling scents. The Greenman woodwicks are a good lower-priced option, with the added crackle of a wooden wick.
If you'd rather have essential-oil scents, take a look at the aromatherapy candles.
And if you're after something interesting to watch, the Hop Hare flower candles gradually open out as they burn, revealing the botanicals and crystal at the centre.
Then there are the candle holders, including Moroccan selenite, petrified wood and carved mango wood pieces. They're worth looking at even if the candle itself is an afterthought.
Getting more from your candles
The first burn matters more than most people realise. Give the candle enough time for the melted wax to reach the edges of its container rather than extinguishing it after ten minutes. This helps prevent tunnelling and makes better use of the wax.
Keep the wick trimmed to around 5mm before relighting, or around 3–5mm for wooden wicks. Always burn candles on a heatproof surface, away from draughts, and never leave a lit candle unattended.
