Hop Hare Magic Flower Candles
These are the candles you notice before you've even lit them.
As the wax melts, the botanicals arranged across the surface gradually open out, creating a flower-like effect around the crystal at the centre. It's a lovely thing to watch, particularly once the candle has been burning for a while.
Each candle is inspired by a tarot card, with seven designs including The Sun, The Moon, The Devil, The Lion and The Knight of Swords.
They're made with soy wax in glass, measure approximately 8.8 x 5cm and are £14.95 each.
The tarot themes give you a starting point if you're buying one for a particular reason. The Sun suits new beginnings and brighter times. The Moon has a more mysterious, intuitive feel. The Devil is a fun choice for looking honestly at temptation, habits and the things that have a hold on us. The Knight of Swords is a good one for focus, determination and getting on with things — its crystal is associated with clarity and courage.
They're especially good gifts for anyone who reads tarot because the card itself gives you something meaningful to work with. But you don't need to know your Major Arcana from your elbow to enjoy them. The flower effect is enough reason to have one on the shelf.
For the full effect, give the first burn around two to three hours so the wax melts properly across the surface. A short burn can create a tunnel down the middle and you won't get to see the botanicals open out as intended.
Keep the wick around 5mm, use a heatproof surface and never leave the candle unattended. Once the candle has finished, the crystal can be kept as part of your collection.
