Two more free tools: identify a crystal by colour if you have a stone and don't know what it is, or the chakra quiz if you'd rather start from how you feel.
Looking for a stone for a particular reason rather than by name? Crystals for good luck covers the ten most often carried for it, and where each association actually came from.
Using the library
How to read these entries
Thirty-seven stones, each with what it is traditionally used for, the chakra and signs it favours, and how to look after it. Search by name if you know what you want, or by a feeling — calm, sleep, protection, focus — if you do not.
The chakra and zodiac lines
Chakras are seven energy centres running from the base of the spine to the crown, each with its own colour, and stones are matched to them mostly by colour and by long use — red jasper at the root, blue lace agate at the throat. The zodiac line works the same way: signs that a stone has been associated with, not a rule about who may own it. A stone outside your sign is not wrong for you.
Care is the part people skip
It is the part that costs you a stone. Amethyst, rose quartz, citrine, fluorite and kunzite all fade in direct sunlight, sometimes within weeks on a bright windowsill. Selenite dissolves in water; pyrite and hematite rust; malachite and angelite should never be soaked. When in doubt, moonlight or a night on a selenite plate cleanses anything and damages nothing. Every entry above carries its own care note.
