Bloodstone — heliotrope, in the old books — is dark green chalcedony flecked with red iron oxide, and the flecks are the whole story: medieval Europe read them as drops of blood and gave the stone to martyrs, healers and soldiers. Warriors carried it into battle for two thousand years on the strength of that reading.
What bloodstone is used for
It is the endurance stone: courage, stamina, coming back again. Not the quick fire of carnelian but the long march. The tradition sets it at the root chakra, ties it to March, and recommends it to anyone in the grinding middle of something — recovery, training, a long project.
A pocket stone for the duration of the thing. This one is bought for a season, not a shelf.
How to care for it
