Red jasper is opaque chalcedony coloured brick-red by iron — one of the oldest worked stones there is. Palaeolithic tools were knapped from it, Egyptian amulets carved from it, and it turns up on Aaron's breastplate by most translations. Jasper comes in many colours; the red is the old warhorse of the family.
What red jasper is used for
The tradition calls it the supreme nurturer — steady strength, patient endurance, quiet stamina. Not fire like carnelian, but fuel: the stone for long efforts and for people who hold everyone else up. Root chakra, and a favourite grounding stone for anyone who finds the black stones severe.
Carried daily rather than displayed — this is an everyday stone with an everyday price, and it wears its use well.
