Sunstone is a feldspar with inclusions of copper or hematite that catch light in a spangled glitter — the effect is called schiller, and in a good piece it looks exactly like its name. The Vikings are said to have navigated by a "sunstone" that found the sun through cloud; whether that was this stone is argued, but the story stuck.
What sunstone is used for
It is the antidote stone: joy, confidence, a lift on grey days. Tradition pairs it with moonstone as a matched set — sun and moon, outward and inward — and modern buyers reach for it in the dark half of the year. Sacral and solar plexus chakras, and the obvious stone for anyone who dreads November.
Somewhere the morning light hits it. Of all the stones in the shop this is the one to keep where you have breakfast.
How to care for it
Sunlight-safe; a natural mood-lifter. Unusually, this one is safe and happy in sunlight — it is a natural mood-lifter and the sun is its element.
