Labradorite Meaning, Uses & Care

Labradorite looks like wet slate until the light catches it, and then it flashes blue, green, gold — sometimes the whole spectrum. The effect is called labradorescence, it comes from light interfering between layers inside the feldspar, and no photograph does it justice. Every piece has its own flash pattern.

What labradorite is used for

The tradition calls it the magician's stone — the one for intuition, for thresholds, and for protection during change. It is the stone people buy mid-upheaval: new chapters, endings, anything liminal. Third eye chakra, and a favourite of anyone who reads cards.

Buy it in person if you ever can, or from photos of the actual piece — the flash varies enormously. Turn it in your hand; that is the whole pleasure of it.

How to care for it

Moonlight or selenite; avoid prolonged water. Moonlight or selenite to cleanse; don't leave it soaking in water.
