Fluorite is calcium fluoride, and it gave its name to fluorescence — many pieces glow under ultraviolet light. It grows in cubes and octahedra in bands of purple, green, blue and clear, often all in one stone, and it is soft enough that a good specimen shows its crystal faces like cut glass.
What fluorite is used for
Its reputation is order: the stone for study, concentration and untangling a cluttered head. The banded colours get read as layers of thought coming into line. It is the student's stone in every modern list — exam desks, revision piles, work-from-home setups — and the third eye is its chakra.
An obelisk or octahedron on the desk where you actually work. This is one stone where the beautiful specimen and the useful one are the same object.
How to care for it
Keep out of long sun; cleanse on selenite. Soft and light-sensitive: keep it out of long sun, away from water, and cleanse it on selenite.
