Malachite Meaning, Uses & Care

Malachite is copper carbonate in swirled bands of green on green — no two cuts alike, and so distinctive that it has been mined, carved and imitated for millennia. The Egyptians ground it for eye paint; the Russians panelled entire rooms in it. It only forms where copper ore weathers, which makes every piece a map of slow chemistry.

What malachite is used for

The tradition gives it to transformation with protection — deep change, guarded. It is called the stone that breaks so you don't, and people buy it at the big turnings: leaving, grieving, becoming. Heart chakra, and not a subtle resident there.

A display stone more than a pocket one — the banding wants to be seen, and the surface is soft enough to scratch in a pocket of keys.

How to care for it

Never water (toxic wet); wipe dry, cleanse with smoke. Never wash it — malachite is toxic when wet and the dust is not to be breathed. Wipe it dry and cleanse with smoke. Keep it from children's hands.
