The lavender candle from Agnes and Cat's Herb Garden range: soy wax scented with lavender, poured into a patterned terracotta-style pot with a wooden wick, and set on a black metal stand that lifts it off the table. Unlit, it looks like a potted herb on a windowsill. Lit, the wooden wick crackles softly and the flame burns wide and low.
Lavender is the familiar evening scent, soft and herbal rather than sweet, so this is the candle of the trio for a bedroom, a bath or a quiet corner at the end of the day. Soy wax burns more slowly than paraffin and lets the scent build gently rather than all at once.
