The Dolly Blue votive from Agnes and Cat: 200g of hand-poured natural soy wax in a small glass jar, scented with the soft, powdery, clean smell of laundry blue, the washday scent that makes a room feel calm, fresh and lived-in. It is the votive for a bathroom, a bedside or a guest room, the places where a candle should be noticed by the people in the room and not by the whole house, and it is the gentlest scent the maker does. Soy wax burns slower than paraffin, so the little jar lasts far longer than it looks, and it burns clean, with no soot on the glass and the fragrance released gradually rather than heavily. Agnes and Cat pour in small batches in Yorkshire. Let the first burn reach the edge of the jar and keep the wick trimmed, and it burns level to the bottom.
