Aloe vera from Aromatika's charcoal-free range: twenty masala incense sticks hand-rolled in India by Ayurvedic methods from natural wood powders, resins and oils, with no charcoal base, so what burns is the blend and nothing else. Aloe vera is the clean, cooling, faintly green scent, closer to a spa or a greenhouse than a temple, and it is the Aromatika stick for people who find the resins and florals of most Indian incense too heavy: a bathroom, a bedroom in the morning, a yoga mat corner. The hexagonal box holds twenty sticks of 20 to 22cm, each burning for around thirty minutes with a smooth smoke that does not catch the throat the way cheap dipped sticks do. At a pound and a half it is one of the best-value packs in the shop. Ethically sourced and rolled by hand, so the sticks vary slightly in thickness. Burn in any holder.
