A four-string ukulele handmade in Indonesia from sonokeling, the Indonesian rosewood that luthiers use for its dense grain and warm tone, finished in a blue sunburst that shades from a deep navy at the edges to a lighter blue at the centre of the body. It is a full-size soprano at 57cm, strung and ready to tune, with geared tuners and a hardwood fretboard. At 790g it is light enough for a child and solid enough for an adult, and the sound is rounder than the plywood ukuleles in toy shops, because the body is real wood. It is an instrument first and an ornament second, and it is bought as both: a first instrument, a gift for a music student, or the thing on the wall that visitors pick up.
