The witch's altar cloth for the wand and the chalice

A 50cm square cotton altar cloth with a fringed border and a pentagram printed at the centre, the five-pointed star inside a circle. The pentagram is the oldest symbol of protection in the Western esoteric tradition and the five points are read as the five elements, earth, air, fire, water and spirit, with the circle binding them.

At 50cm square it covers a small altar, a bedside table or a corner of a desk, and it is the right size for a Celtic cross or a three-card tarot spread with the pentagram as the centre. Cotton lies flat, folds small for a bag, and washes.

Made in India. The fringe gives it a finished edge that a plain hem lacks, so it reads as a cloth made for the purpose rather than a scarf pressed into service. It pairs with the Life, Death and Rebirth and Horoscope cloths in the same range.

Cotton. 50 x 50cm. Weighs 36g. From India.
