Guide your sound bath students into deeper meditation with richer resonance
When a big gong or a 30cm bowl gives back a thin, papery ring, the bowl is rarely at fault. A light mallet cannot drive enough energy into a heavy rim, so the deep note the instrument is actually capable of never arrives.
This is the heavy one: 26cm of dense Nepalese hardwood weighing just over a kilo, and the mass is the whole point. Terminalia elliptica takes that impact year after year without denting or splintering, which is why these are turned from it. Take it in both hands and you can pull a rolling, low tone out of anything from about 20cm upwards, gongs included.
It is far too much stick for a small bowl. Sturdy enough for weekly teaching and sound baths, and an easy answer if yours has gone missing or was never big enough to begin with.
