Pound out your stress and feel the deep thump resonate in your chest

Connect to an ancient rhythm of protection with a drum you hold easily

  • Deep, rounded bass from a 30cm head — one hand holds, the other plays
  • The protective Hamsa, an open palm with an eye at its heart, covers the whole skin
  • Two sticks included, so a second person can join in straight away
  • An 850g wooden frame, light enough that your gripping arm lasts the session
  • Wood and hide from Indonesia, so no drum is quite like another

Share the joy of spontaneous music immediately with the included beaters

Thirty centimetres is the useful size for a frame drum. Go smaller and the note thins out; go bigger and you need both arms to work it. This one you hold in one hand and strike with the other, and it gives back a low round thump you feel as much as hear.

The Hamsa is painted across the skin: the open hand with the eye at its centre, which has meant protection across the Middle East and North Africa for a very long time. Two beaters come with it, so you can hand one over and play alongside somebody else. Natural hide, so every drum sounds and looks slightly its own.

Wood and hide. 30 x 7cm. Weighs 850g. From Indonesia.
