Helichrysum essential oil, 10ml, steam-distilled from the flowers of Helichrysum italicum grown in Italy. Helichrysum is the everlasting flower, named from the Greek helios, sun, and chrysos, gold, for the clusters of small golden ball-shaped blossoms that keep their colour long after they are picked, and known in France as immortelle. The oil smells of the plant: herbaceous and warm, with honey and hay under it and a faint tea-like dryness, nothing like the sweet florals most people expect from a flower oil. In aromatherapy tradition it is the skin oil above all, the one blended into a carrier for tired, weathered and mature skin, and it has been used in Mediterranean herbal practice since ancient Greece. The 10ml bottle is the size for blending; the 50ml on the same shelf is for practitioners.
