Med Mango Wood Backflow Burner - Hamsa

Smoke tumbling over a carved Hamsa in a slow cascade

Med Mango Wood Backflow Burner - Hamsa

The hand of protection on a 23cm mango wood tower

  • Medium mango wood backflow burner, 23cm tall
  • The Hamsa carved into the front of the tower
  • Hollow cones drop their smoke down the face
  • The smoke gathers in a pool at the base
  • Mango wood grain differs on every piece

A small spectacle for a hallway shelf

A medium mango wood backflow burner with the Hamsa, the protective open hand, carved into the front of its 23cm tower. A backflow cone sits on top, and because the cone is hollow the smoke drops through it and tumbles down the face of the burner and over the Hamsa in a slow cascade that gathers at the base. It is the version for anyone who likes the hand of protection motif, which has guarded doorways across the Mediterranean and Middle East for centuries, and the carving in warm mango wood is bolder than the painted ceramic burners. Hand-carved in India from sustainably harvested orchard wood, so grain and tone vary. Pair it with a box of backflow cones; standard cones will burn but will not flow. Stand it somewhere still, since any draught breaks the fall of the smoke.

Mango wood, carved Hamsa. 13 x 23 x 15cm. Weighs 350g. From India.
