A 10cm natural selenite tower from the mountains of Morocco, the milky white gypsum crystal that refracts light along its fibres so a lamp set beside it lights the whole length. The tower is cut from a single piece and left with its natural fibrous surface, so each one has its own grain and glow; no two are the same. Ten centimetres is the desk size, the height that stands beside a monitor or on a bedside without dominating, and at around 250g it is stable. Selenite is named after Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, and in crystal practice it is the cleansing stone: a tower is kept near other crystals to clear them and near the bed to clear the room. Keep it dry; selenite dissolves in water.
