The wealth stone for a till or a desk

A first-grade Peruvian pyrite specimen, 100 to 135g and 5.5 to 6.5cm across, a cluster of golden metallic cubes and faces with the naturally textured surface the mineral grows with. Pyrite is fool's gold, iron sulphide that forms in perfect cubes and shines like the real thing, and the Peruvian material is the best in the world for lustre, so first grade from Peru is the pyrite collectors ask for. It is a desk stone above all, the one that gets picked up by visitors, and in crystal practice it is the stone of wealth, confidence and protection, kept on a till, a desk or in a workshop. At this weight it has real heft in the hand. Every specimen is naturally formed, so shape, texture, colour tone and crystal structure vary from piece to piece and from the photograph. Keep it dry; pyrite does not like damp. One of the most-handled pieces in any collection.

Peruvian pyrite, first grade. Approximately 100 to 135g, 5.5 to 6.5cm. 6 x 5 x 3.5cm.
