You are putting your soap down on a tree that lived and died millions of years ago. Buried underground, the timber gave up its fibres to silica cell by cell, mineralising into solid stone while the grain stayed readable right across the surface.
The colour of petrified wood does not result from the tree species or the colour of the wood of a living plant, but from the minerals that penetrated the debris as it turned to stone, which is why the tones run from tan to near-chocolate and no two pieces match. The upper part of this soap dish has been smoothly polished, while the edges are left raw, so you get the finished stone and its natural form in one object.
It is heavy, cool and completely waterproof, so it sits steady on a wet basin and does not mind being wet every day. It is equally at home holding jewellery on a dressing table. Every stone soap dish is unique; the photo shows the product in an exemplary colour scheme.
