Fifteen centimetres of glowing, carved crystal
A selenite tower carved as a spiral unicorn horn, 15cm tall, twisting to a point. The spiral is cut into the fibrous stone, so the light winds up the horn in a band as you walk past it, and on a windowsill it glows like something out of a fairy story.
Selenite takes its name from Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, and the way its milky fibres carry light explains why. It is a soft, translucent form of gypsum, so keep it dry and dust it with a cloth rather than washing it. In crystal practice it is the cleansing stone, linked with the crown chakra, and it is often used to clear other crystals placed beside it.
It is the tower for a child's bedroom, a fairy or unicorn shelf, or anyone who finds the plain towers too serious. The small 10cm horn suits a desk.
Selenite. 4 x 15cm. Weighs 300g. From Morocco.
