A large bundle that lasts for months
A large black sage smudge stick, 22.5cm long and 118g, a dense bundle of dried black sage bound with thread and individually wrapped, from Mexico. Black sage is mugwort's cousin in the smudging tradition, darker and more herbal than white sage, and it is the sage of dreams and the inner world, burned before sleep, before divination and before meditation where white sage is burned to clear a room; many people keep both. Smudging has been used to cleanse a space, a person or an object and to sharpen intuition for as long as there have been sacred herbs, and the method is unchanged: light the tip, let it flame, blow it out and let the bundle smoulder, fanning the smoke where it is wanted, then press it out in a dish. At this size one bundle lasts for months of use. Keep a heatproof dish or shell beneath it, and open a window afterwards.
