The calm stone as an easy beginner's pendulum
A small polished sphere of amethyst on a chain. The ball shows the purple evenly from every side, deeper in some spheres than others, and it moves smoothly because there is no point to catch the air.
A sphere pendulum has no tip to lead it, so it is read by the direction of the swing, in clean circles and straight lines, which many dowsers find easier to follow than a point. It hangs on a chain of about 170mm with a gemstone bead at the top to hold. Each one is made from natural stone, so the size and markings vary a little.
Amethyst is read in crystal practice as the calm, intuitive stone, so this is a gentle pendulum for quiet questions at the end of the day.
