A small polished sphere of tiger's eye on a chain. Tiger's eye is golden-brown quartz with fibrous bands, and on a sphere the band of light rolls round the ball as it moves, which makes it one of the most satisfying stones to watch swing.
A sphere pendulum has no tip to lead it, so it is read by the direction of the swing, in clean circles and straight lines, which many dowsers find easier to follow than a point. It hangs on a chain of about 170mm with a gemstone bead at the top to hold. Each one is made from natural stone, so the size and markings vary a little.
