A 16 inch shaman drum with the spirit of the bear painted on its skin, built on an acacia wood frame with a leather head and a tuning system, supplied with its beater. The bear is the grounding animal of shamanic tradition, strength, protection and the long sleep of winter, and the drum is made for the deep, slow rhythms that go with it: struck softly it gives a low, rounded note that hangs in the room, struck hard it fills a hall. The large head gives it the resonance, and the tuning means the skin can be tightened in a damp British room and slackened in a warm one, so the drum stays in voice all year, which untunable drums do not. It is used for meditation, sound healing, drumming circles, ceremony and simply for the pleasure of a drum that answers the hand. At 848g it is light enough to hold for a long session. Made in Indonesia.
