Heavy stone that sits still where ceramic slides

A sandstone oil burner carved by hand in Jogja, on Java, the town where most of the world's stone Buddhas are cut. The stone is a soft sandy grey with a carved leaf running up the side, and it comes with a small glass dish that sits in the top for the oil or a wax melt.

Sandstone holds heat well and never chips the way thin ceramic can, so this is the burner to leave out on a bathroom shelf or a spa-style corner. A tea light goes in the opening at the base, a little water and a few drops of oil go in the glass, and the scent is in the room within minutes.

At 6cm across it is the small one of the pair. Stand it on a mat, since sandstone takes the heat and passes some of it down.

Sandstone. 6 x 6 x 9cm. Weighs 430g. From Indonesia.
