Warm matte stone with a surface ceramic cannot copy
The classic shape of the sandstone oil burner, carved by hand in Jogja on Java, the town known for its stone Buddhas. Plain sides, a soft sandy grey, and a glass dish that sits in the top for the oil or a wax melt. The stone is left matt rather than polished, so it feels like something found rather than bought.
Sandstone takes heat without cracking and holds it, so this one suits a bathroom, a treatment room or a hallway where a ceramic burner would look too dainty. A tea light goes in the base, water and a few drops of oil go in the glass, and the scent builds slowly rather than all at once.
At 10cm across it is the larger of the two sandstone burners and will hold a full wax melt. Stand it on a mat.
Sandstone. 10 x 10 x 11cm. Weighs 460g. From Indonesia.
