A 108-bead mala in clear rock crystal, strung in Ahmedabad and imported direct. Clear quartz is the neutral stone of crystal practice, read as amplifying whatever intention is set with it, so a quartz mala is the all-purpose one, used for any mantra and often chosen as a first mala for that reason. The beads are 6 to 8mm, polished clear with the faint veils that mark natural quartz, and the strand runs 60 to 80cm, which wears as a long necklace or wraps several times at the wrist. For japa practice the mala is held in the right hand and counted with the thumb, one bead per repetition, turning at the guru bead rather than crossing it. Worn, it catches light; held, it is cool and smooth.
