A 15cm crystal ball on its own stand, cast in K9 optical glass and weighing five kilos. At this size a crystal ball stops being an ornament and becomes a presence: the sphere holds the whole room inverted inside it, throws a hard spot of light across a table in the sun, and sits with the weight of a small anvil. Producing a sphere this big without a single bubble or haze is difficult, so many are discarded in the making and the price steps up sharply from the hand-sized balls.
