A dressing table piece as much as an altar piece

A faceted ball of rose quartz on a light brown wooden stand, the ball about 5.5cm across and the whole piece around 10cm tall, 225g. The faceting is what makes it: dozens of flat faces cut around the sphere, so the soft pink stone glows and sparkles at once, cloudy inside and bright on the surface, and it reads as a jewel on a dressing table rather than a lump of mineral. Rose quartz is the heart stone of crystal practice, read as love, compassion and self-kindness, and it is the stone most often bought as a gift for that reason; a faceted ball on a stand is the version that looks like a present. It is used as the centre of a heart-centred crystal grid, held in meditation, or simply kept where the morning light reaches it. Made in India, and because the stone is natural the depth of pink varies from ball to ball. Dust it; keep it out of long hours of direct sun, which fades rose quartz.

Rose quartz, faceted, light wooden stand. Ball approximately 5.5cm; 10cm with stand. Weighs 225g. From India.
