Black tourmaline is the one people put by the front door. It is the standard protection stone of crystal practice, and it is also, plainly, a very good-looking black object: matte dark, faintly striated, polished to something closer to graphite than glass.
At 11cm it is desk-sized. It sits well next to a laptop, and it is usually the piece that wins round the people who say they are not really into crystals.
