Hanging Brass Incense Burner - Cross

Smoke drifting down through the stars of a hanging brass censer

Hanging Brass Incense Burner - Cross

A cross finial for a church-style practice or prayer corner

  • Hangs from its chains, so the smoke drifts down and out through the stars
  • Takes resin on charcoal, cones or loose incense
  • A cross finial for a Christian or a church-style practice
  • Polished brass that catches candlelight
  • Pairs with the copal resin sticks for a charcoal-free alternative

Resin on charcoal, cones or loose incense

A hanging incense burner in polished brass with a cross finial on the lid and star-shaped cut-outs round the body. It hangs from three brass chains gathered to a single loop, so the smoke rises through the stars and the whole thing swings gently as it burns. Handmade in India.

It is made for resin, cone or charcoal incense rather than sticks. A lit charcoal disc goes in the base, a pinch of frankincense or myrrh goes on top, and the lid closes over it. The brass gets hot, so hang it from a hook or a stand rather than holding it by the chain.

The cross makes it the obvious censer for a prayer corner or a home altar in the Christian tradition, and it works just as well as a small hanging lantern with a tea light inside. At 14cm it is a modest size.

Brass. 7.5 x 14cm. Weighs 150g. From India.
