Frankincense as a loose incense powder, 100g, made in Bali from bamboo wood powder and fragrance. Frankincense is the oldest incense there is, burned in temples from Egypt to Rome and in churches ever since, and the powder gives a softer, more diffuse version of the resin's warm, lemony, slightly peppery smoke than lumps of raw resin do. Loose powder is burned in three ways: sprinkled on a charcoal disc, laid in a line in a heatproof dish and lit at one end so it smoulders along, or pressed into a mould to make your own cones. A pack goes a long way because you use a pinch at a time. It is the scent for prayer, meditation and clearing a space before ritual, and in Bali it is burned at household shrines every morning, which is where this comes from.
