Grown in Italy and distilled from the flowering tops
Helichrysum italicum is the flower that dries without losing its colour, which earned it the name everlasting, or immortelle in France. This is 50ml of the essential oil, steam-distilled from the flowering tops of plants grown in Italy, and it smells like nothing else in the aromatherapy cupboard: warm, hay-like, honeyed, with a curry-leaf edge that people either love at once or grow into. It is one of the most expensive oils in the professional range because the yield from the flowers is tiny, and 50ml is the practitioner's bottle rather than a home one. Aromatherapists reach for it in skin blends and in restorative massage oils, always well diluted into a carrier. Sold undiluted, for use in a burner, a diffuser or a blend.
