The size at which the pictures in the stone can be read
Six large tumbled picture Nguni jasper stones, each 30 to 50mm, polished smooth. Picture jasper is the stone that looks like a painting: layers, stripes and patches of tan, cream, brown and grey laid down as sediment and turned into scenes, a desert horizon on one stone, a cliff face on the next, and the large size is the one at which the pictures can be read. It is named for the Nguni cattle of southern Africa, whose hides carry the same mottled patterns. In crystal practice picture jasper is the grounding stone with a view, read as connection to the land and to the long view of things, and it is the stone for people who like to look closely. Six in a pack gives six landscapes for a bowl, a windowsill or a desk, and they are handed round and compared. Natural stone, so every picture is different and none matches the photograph exactly.
