A tall wooden candle stand, 40cm high, hand-carved from albesia wood in Indonesia and painted turquoise with gold detail picked out on the carving. It is a church-candle stand, made for a pillar candle of 6 to 8cm or a wide dinner candle, and the turned, ornate stem is in the Balinese style, more Mediterranean villa than English cottage, with the turquoise and gold giving it a faded, antique feel against a plain wall. Albesia is a fast-growing plantation timber, light to carry at 385g for a piece this size and sustainable, and the stands are carved and painted by hand, so the finish varies and shows the brush. This is the large size, for a floor, a mantel or the centre of a dining table, and it pairs with the medium stand in the same colour for a stepped pair either side of a mirror or a fireplace. Also in white and gold.
