A 40cm stand for a church candle or wide pillar
The white and gold version of the large wooden candle stand, 40cm tall, hand-carved from albesia wood in Indonesia and painted a soft white with gold rubbed into the carving so the ornate stem reads as weathered rather than new. It holds a church candle or a wide pillar, 6 to 8cm across, and the height puts the flame at the level of a mantel or a dining table centre, where it has presence without being heavy; at 385g the stand lifts with one hand. White and gold is the wedding and christening colourway, and a pair of these stands either side of a cake or an aisle is how they are most often used, after which they go home to a hall table. Albesia is a quick-growing plantation wood, sustainable and light. Carved and painted by hand, so no two are identical. The medium stand in the same finish makes a stepped pair.
