A long mango wood incense tray, 30 by 10cm, in a classic whitewash finish that leaves the grain showing through the pale wash. The length is the reason to buy a tray rather than a boat: a full-size stick leans over the whole tray and every bit of ash lands on wood, not on the table, and the width takes two or three sticks at once. Mango wood is dense and heavy for a timber, so the tray sits still at 350g, and it is a sustainable wood, harvested from orchards after the trees stop fruiting. The whitewash suits a light room, Scandinavian and coastal schemes and anywhere brass would look heavy. It is made in India and finished by hand, so the wash varies slightly piece to piece. Ash tips out; the surface wipes with a dry cloth.
