A large round wooden wick candle in a hand-cast concrete bowl, scented with Crushed Vanilla and Orange: sweet vanilla lifted by bright orange peel, warm without turning sugary. The wick is rosewood, so it crackles softly as it burns, like a small fire, and the flame sits wide and low in the soy wax.
The concrete is cast by hand, which means every bowl has its own marks, bubbles and shading. The raw grey sits well against wood, linen and plants, and felt pads underneath stop it scratching a table. At 14cm across and 6cm deep it is a centrepiece size for a coffee table or a dining table.
When the wax is gone, the bowl is worth keeping: it takes a succulent, a small fern or a handful of keys. It is a popular wedding table and Valentine's candle for that reason.
