The first proper labradorite after a tumble stone
A medium Madagascar labradorite stone, 250 to 300g and 8 to 10cm, polished on its face so that the flash shows: blue, green and gold moving across the grey stone as it is turned in the light, appearing and vanishing with the angle. This is the hand-sized specimen, big enough to fill a palm and to hold a broad sheet of colour, small enough for a desk, a bedside or a shelf among other stones, and it is the labradorite most people buy as their first proper piece after a tumble. The flash, called labradorescence, comes from light bouncing between thin layers inside the stone, and no two pieces carry it the same way. In crystal practice labradorite is the stone of intuition and the hidden, read as the stone for seeing beneath the surface, and it is kept on a desk where the light changes through the day. Every stone differs in colour, pattern, size and weight from the one pictured.
Madagascar labradorite, polished face. Approximately 250 to 300g, 8 to 10cm. 9 x 3.5 x 5cm.
