Labradorite does nothing at all until the light moves, and then the whole polished face erupts in blue and gold at once. The effect has a name — labradorescence — and it comes from light bouncing between microscopic layers inside the stone rather than from anything on the surface. This is a big one, approximately 900 to 1100g and 140 to 170mm, so the flash carries across a room rather than needing you to lean in.
Put it where the light changes during the day: a windowsill, a mantelpiece, the end of a bookshelf — somewhere it can hold court. Turn it slowly the first time and you will find the angle where the colour switches on. It works as a centrepiece on its own, which is not something most crystals can carry off at this size. Labradorite varies naturally, so the exact colour, pattern, size and weight of each stone differ from the one pictured.
