A bloodstone dowsing pendulum: the dark green jasper flecked with red iron, cut by hand into a point so every pendulum has its own shape and its own scatter of red. Bloodstone has been carried for courage and vitality since medieval times, and in crystal practice it is the stone for questions that need some nerve to ask.
The pendulum hangs on a silver-plated chain of about 170mm with a gemstone bead at the top end to hold, so the chain does not slip through the fingers. At around 17g it is light enough to answer a small movement and heavy enough to settle cleanly, which suits beginners and map dowsing alike. Hold the bead between thumb and finger, let the point go still, and ask.
Each is handmade from natural stone, so the size and the markings differ from the photographs. It is a strong pendulum for a darker reading kit, beside a black and blood red divination cloth.
