A 35cm healing gong hung in a greenwashed albasia wood stand, the pale green wash leaving the grain of the wood showing through, ready to play as it arrives. It is the medium gong of the range and the softer-looking of the two 35cm finishes, the one for a treatment room, a home practice room or a studio decorated in natural colours, where the black stand would be a hard line. Struck softly the gong holds a long single note that rolls and fades; struck hard it fills a room and brings a class to stillness, the job it is bought for. These are the temple gongs of Bali and Java, now the instrument of the sound bath in Britain. The albasia stand is a light plantation wood, and the whole thing weighs 4.2kg, so it moves easily and sits on a table or the floor. Made in Indonesia, and finished by hand, so the wash varies a little.
