A scarcer stone for a collector's bowl
Peruvian opal is not the fiery opal of jewellery shops but the common opal of the Andes: a soft, opaque stone in milky blues, sea-greens and occasionally pink, with a glow like sea glass. These twenty-four tumbles, 20 to 30mm each, show that range in one bag, and because the stone takes a high polish each one has a wet-pebble shine. It is scarcer than most tumbles, which is reflected in the price, and a pack of twenty-four is a proper quantity for a maker or a collector rather than a single souvenir. Each stone differs in colour and pattern. In the Andes it has been worn as a stone of calm and renewal, and in crystal practice the blue Peruvian opal is read as the stone for gentle speech and a quiet mind.
