Five hundred grams of raw smoky quartz: rough pieces of the brown-to-grey quartz, translucent at the edges, with the natural crystal faces and breaks left as they came out of the ground. Smoky quartz gets its colour from natural radiation acting on traces of aluminium over millions of years, and in a bag of rough you can see the depth of colour vary from a pale tea to near-black. It is the grounding stone of crystal practice, the one kept on the desk and by the door to settle a room, and rough smoky is the form many people prefer for that.
