The patient, steadying stone for a slow reading
A full set of banded agate rune stones in a printed cotton pouch: twenty-five polished stones, twenty-four engraved with the letters of the Elder Futhark and one left blank. Banded agate is the striped stone, layers of cream, grey, brown and white laid down as the agate formed, and no two stones in a set carry the same bands, so each rune is recognisable on its own before you read the letter, which is a small pleasure in casting. Runes are the old Germanic alphabet, each letter also a word and a meaning, cast for divination since at least the early centuries AD; where they came from before that is argued over and nobody is sure. Agate is the steadying stone of crystal practice, read as balance and patience, and the banded set is the one for a reader who wants stones that look like they came out of a river. The pouch is 11 by 9cm and the set weighs 230g.
