The medium pencil point selenite tower, 15cm tall: Moroccan selenite cut to a four-sided taper with clean faces that catch the light in bands. It is the middle of three sizes, tall enough to stand as a centrepiece on a desk and small enough to sit at the heart of a crystal grid without crowding the stones around it.
Selenite takes its name from Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, and the way its milky fibres carry light explains why. It is a soft, translucent form of gypsum, so keep it dry and dust it with a cloth rather than washing it. In crystal practice it is the cleansing stone, linked with the crown chakra, and it is often used to clear other crystals placed beside it.
Each tower is cut from natural stone, so the banding and glow vary a little from piece to piece.
