Selenite Sphere

Selenite Sphere

The centre of a crystal grid with tumbles around it

  • Lit from behind, the whole ball glows like a small moon on a windowsill
  • The piece for the centre of a crystal grid, with tumbles arranged around it
  • Selenite is used in crystal practice to clear other stones: rest them against the sphere overnight
  • Sold without a stand; the selenite and wooden sphere stands on the same shelf fit it
  • Keep it dry: selenite softens in water and should be dusted, never washed

Rest stones against it to clear them overnight

A selenite sphere, 5 to 6cm across, turned from a single piece of Moroccan selenite. Spheres show the stone's fibrous structure better than any other cut: the bands of white run across the curve, and a lamp or a window behind it lights the whole ball from within, soft and lunar, which is where the name comes from, Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon. At 280g it sits solidly in a stand or a dish, and it is small enough for a desk, a bedside or the centre of a crystal grid. Selenite is soft and dissolves in water, so it lives somewhere dry. In crystal practice it is widely held to be the cleansing stone, used to clear other crystals and to quiet a room, and a sphere is read as doing that evenly in every direction.

Selenite. 5.5 x 5.5cm. Weighs 280g. From Morocco.
